Free Windows 10 Upgrades - Available Until 29th July 2016
Microsoft will be ceasing extended support of Windows 7 on 14th January 2020. Some software vendors are ceasing support for their applications running on Windows 7 sooner than that, for example, MYOB is ceasing support for computers running Windows 7 on 31st December 2016.
Many Windows computers qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 10 for a limited time. You may have already noticed the Windows 10 upgrade notification in the task bar, down by the clock on the lower right of your screen. (Examples show Windows 7 layout. Your layout may look different if you're running Windows 8, 8.1 or if you've adjusted the view in Windows)
If you don't see the icon, your current operating system may not support the upgrade or you may need to install all available Windows Updates.
If you are interested in taking advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade, you need to check a few simple things first. If you would like us to do this check for you, please contact us on 543 9580, email - firstname.lastname@example.org
Be aware that although Microsoft are providing the upgrade for free, PC Systems will charge for any time taken to gather information, install the update and provide post installation support.
To check if the upgrade notification is already installed, look at your task bar, generally where the clock is displayed and look for an icon like this one circled in red.
If you don't see the icon here, it may be hidden. If so, follow the instructions below.
Click the arrow pointing up (1) and look for icon (2). If the icon is not present, it may be that your version of windows may not qualify for the upgrade or your Windows Updates are not fully up to date. If you are running Windows 8, it needs to be upgraded to 8.1 prior to running the Windows 10 upgrade.
If you are interested in proceeding, some information will need to be gathered to check the hardware and software compatibility. You can do this yourself with these guidelines below or we can gather that information for you.
NOTE: In our experience the majority of upgrades have installed without issue, however there's been a few issues after the upgrade has been installed. These are generally hardware and software incompatibilities. This risk can be mitigated by having us take a full image backup of your computer prior to the upgrade so that if there are any major issues, we can restore the computer from the image backup.
If your computer was supplied and built by PC Systems there will be a four digit serial number on a white sticker on the rear of the computer. Please contact us with that serial number and we can check if the computer has the performance requirements to run Windows 10. For other computers not supplied by PC Systems you can contact us and we can guide you on getting the information you need.
List the applications you use and we can give you an idea of their compatibility, although we cannot guarantee their compatibility. Microsoft applications are generally compatible unless they are older versions.
If, after all checks have been done, you would like to go ahead, you can proceed with the upgrade yourself by clicking the upgrade icon shown above. Alternatively, you can contact us to book your upgrade with us.
